Four ways to send SCOM alerts to ServiceNow

If you work with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and ServiceNow then you will be familiar with the fear of missing a critical infrastructure alert!  But fear no more, we have just the ticket! Imagine if you could get these two tools working together, to fully synchronize your alerts and incidents for the lifetime of an issue – you’d be living the ITSM dream, right!

So, here are our top four methods for making this dream a reality:

1)      Cookdown Alert Sync

Cookdown Alert Sync offers an impressive range of functionality and customization options, all at a very competitive price. Plus, it is super-fast to set up - just a few clicks and you’re done! The good news is you can also take a 30-day trial, so you can give it a free test run before making a financial commitment. To check out the full feature list and our prices, just go to cookdown.com/alert-sync but to give you a flavor, expect alert correlation, full ITIL compliance, and tooling to handle alert storms.

2)      ServiceNow Event Management

For those of you that already have ServiceNow IT Operations Manager (ITOM) then it makes sense to use their Event Management solution to integrate your monitoring tools into ServiceNow, including SCOM. This method is best suited to larger organizations that have the time and money to commit to the complex setup process and the big budget needed to implement these tools. That said, if you do invest in ServiceNow you will literally have all the functionality and features you could ever wish for from an integration tool!

3)      Build it Yourself

DIY is not for the faint-hearted, you are going to need to be pretty confident when it comes to writing Powershell scripts! This method is definitely the cheapest by far, but is more suited to smaller setups, as it can be difficult to manage as a business grows. If you want to give this a go then we recommend you give our blog a quick read on How to pull SCOM alerts from your Management Group and push them via REST to a specified endpoint.

4)      Kelverion System Center Orchestrator (SCORCH)

Kelverion’s integration pack links ServiceNow using the Microsoft System Center Orchestrator (SCORCH). The setup process is a bit clunky, requiring you to bolt together quite a few tools and configure some of the data yourself. You will also need a SCORCH license before you can get started. So, although the final setup offers a reasonable level of integration and automation, it is certainly not the most refined option on the market.

Still not sure which integration tool is best for you?

It can be a tough decision! To help you make the right choice we’ve drawn up a list of questions we recommend every business asks themselves before making a commitment, to take a read click here.
